I think it's some plastic covering that was used to protect the rims during shipping. I think it looks odd too. I special ordered the car three months ago so it was sent straight from the factory over the Pacific. Only 7 miles on the car when I sat down and started it up for the first time.  The pic from the salesman's camera phone does not do the paint justice. It's a nice deep red.

I didn't get to drive the car home until after dark. Pics coming tomorrow.
