The Rise Of Microsoft Corporation Xbox One Under Phil Spencer
« on: November 21, 2015, 02:45:07 PM »
And rise it shall!  The take over of the USA has begun!!11!

Quote
When Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) launched the Xbox One back in November 2013, it faced an uphill task against Sony Corporationís (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) bestselling PlayStation 4. Around two years later, the Xbox One has proved itself a serious contender to the PS4 after a few growing pains. A lot of damage control had to be done since the goodwill of the Xbox One was at stake. Prior to the launch, Microsoft wanted to make the Xbox One always-online, and also restricted buying and selling of used physical game discs, that turned a lot of gamers off. At the same time, Microsoft was marketing it as an all-in-one entertainment console.

On the other hand, the PS4 was simply marketed as a powerful gaming machine and the focus was on that from the start. It also allowed owners to share game discs without any issues and awarded them full ownership rights. That pretty much set the precedent for the PS4 to succeed and it has succeeded. The last official sales figures a few months ago suggested 25.3 million units (back in July), and VGChartz estimates it be closing in on to 29 million units, as of their latest figures.

Things would eventually change for Microsoft when Phil Spencer was brought in March 2014 to spice up the Xbox division. His efforts helped the Xbox One become a force to reckon with. The focus was put back on gaming, and this year alone we have seen several key changes to Xbox One that makes the PS4 look less stellar. The first thing we must mention here is the addition of backwards compatibility of Xbox 360 titles, which was announced at E3 2015. This month, we finally have seen this feature go live in a special dashboard update. If that was not enough, the amount of quality exclusives this year is quite impressive. Some of the best exclusives have been released this year.

Speaking of exclusives, "Halo 5: Guardians", "Forza Motorsport 6", "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" and "Rise of the Tomb Raider" were some of the best titles to hit the Xbox One. The latter is a timed-exclusive and will release on the PS4 a year from now, but at least Xbox One owners will enjoy it for a good year. That may even prompt some PS4 owners to get an Xbox One. This year also Xbox One owners get a brand new Elite Wireless Controller, that is simply designed for hardcore gamers. Microsoft reportedly hails 2015 as the best year for the Xbox brand, perhaps since 2007. This is debatable, but still quite an excellent year indeed.

So, there you see the rise of the Xbox One under Phil Spencer into a gaming behemoth. Now the only question is how would Sony respond in 2016? That we will have to wait and see.

Besides it being a little less powerful than the PS4.. how much farther does it have to go for you?  What else you need?

I'm just talking about sale wise. I'm very happy with my Xbox and still don't need a ps4.
