I dont understand is this just the controller for a new console or is it a new controller for the wii to take the wii on the road with you and they are calling it a new console cause its portable. Im kinda mind bottled. I would be down for the latter as putting virtual console games on that and taking them with you would be perfect for me at the fairs i get bored as fuck there.

A new controller for a new console that is Wii compatible.

Farewell, Friend Codes: Wii U to have single online identity and friends list
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/farewell-friend-codes-wii-u-to-have-single-gamertag-and-friend/

This isn't from Nintendo from what was reported later on.  This was based on things Ubisoft was saying at some strange secretive press briefing.  Ubi might just integrate their UPlay site and account system into their Wii U games regardless of what Nintendo does.

Certainly not fond of the idea of buying a controller for $100+ regardless of how cool it may seem....

I think the controller is going to be limited to one per console and you will get it when you get the system.  I know computing has come a ways since the Wii was designed, but I have a hard time seeing Nintendo getting this to a $250 price point without loosing money.  7" Android tablets are $200-300 and they are going to pack a console with a quad-core processor with a good chunk of DRAM and additional space for storage on top of that.  Maybe they will do it, but Nintendo traditionally doesn't loose money on hardware.

Well that's kind of my entire point. Me saying $100+ was giving them quite some benefit of doubt. I sincerely doubt that controller could possibly cost less than $250. Also if it is limited to one per console and I'm forced to use those blasted wiimotes (plus or no) that system is dead to me.

Pachter disses the Wii U...and he's right!

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/284630/news/nintendos-completely-blown-its-wii-2-strategy-pachter/?attr=CVG-General-RSS
while I have a hard time disagreeing with anything Pachter says...... A fair group of analysts and the vast majority of "core" gamers I know thought the Wii was going to tank worse than the Dreamcast, and obviously they (and I) were wrong.

rays all excited about this, is actually quite cute, hes hoping that this new nintendo will take his 360 spot and  have to deal with ms and sony,  im not sure i see that happening but it would be a nice thought to have nintendo be THE console yet again.

One firmware update and Sony can steal their thunder with NGP to PS3 tethering for the same functionality.

I'm a fucking genius!

Wii U currently only supports one WiiPad
by Justin McElroy  on Jun 9th 2011 5:20PM

Investing in a new console is never cheap, but considering the main input method for the Wii U is a controller with a screen in it, we were understandably daunted by the idea of having to buy multiple WiiPads. According to Shigeru Miyamoto (probably known best as the senior producer on Chibi Robo) we needn't have worried.

Miyamoto told GamePro that the Wii U will only support one WiiPad, explaining that if the company had wanted to do multiple touchscreens it would have found a way to let players use 3DS systems with the new console.

Miyamoto didn't rule out the possibility of letting you take your WiiPad to a friends house and linking up play somehow, but it doesn't seem to be actively in the works at the moment.

The Wii U is sounding more and more like the Pee U by the minute....  ;((

Wii U's WiiPad controller resolution estimated at 854x480
by Ben Gilbert  on Jun 9th 2011 12:40PM

Armed with some super high-resolution photos of E3 2011's Wii U prototype controller -- what we've dubbed "The WiiPad" -- the pixel counters at Golgotron estimate the screen to be a WVGA display, with video presented in 854 by 480 pixels. We're not exactly what you'd call "techies" (we leave that to our friends at Engadget), but last we checked, 480px high resolutions aren't high definition.

Perhaps you'd like to peep those fine pixels for yourself and get counting? Golgotron's got you covered. Just, ya know, clear your schedule if you're gonna. Counting to 480 takes awhile! ... Or about 480 seconds.
