Injury Updates
« on: August 05, 2010, 11:25:34 AM »
So glad I passed on this guy.  His ADP was way too high for an essentially one category guy.

Red Sox activated OF Jacoby Ellsbury from the 15-day disabled list.
Ellsbury has played in only nine of Boston's 107 games this season, but all indications are that he is finally healthy and ready to contribute for the fast-fading Red Sox. While the speedster can't be expected to steal bases at his usual pace initially, he's still worth owning in mixed formats. He will only get more comfortable on the base paths as the year wears on. Red Sox get back Ellsbury, and lose Youkilis for the season.  Time to pick up Mike Lowell people!

Kevin Youkilis has opted to undergo season-ending surgery to fix the torn muscle at the base of his right thumb.
Youkilis will be in a cast for the next six weeks. So even if the Red Sox manage to climb over the Rays and make the playoffs, he won't be available. The first baseman suffered the unfortunate injury during Monday night's game against the Indians. His absence should mean more playing time for Mike Lowell, who was shopped aggressively at the trade deadline but never dealt. Aug. 5 - 4:16 pm et

Not like he was lighting it up anyway.  But catcher is so thin, I'm sure he's on someones roster.

Torre: Russell Martin likely done for season

Dodgers manager Joe Torre suggested Thursday that Russell Martin (hip) could miss the rest of the season.
Martin suffered a labral tear in his right hip while running the bases Tuesday and was placed on the disabled list on Wednesday night. If he's truly done for the year, it is a major blow to the Dodgers' chances of catching the Padres and Giants. A.J. Ellis and Brad Ausmus will split time behind the plate for Los Angeles unless a bargain can be found on the waiver wire. Aug. 5 - 7:39 pm et

What a shame.  He was having a stellar rookie season.  Definately someone to target in drafts next year.

Tribe's Santana to have season-ending surgery

Carlos Santana is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery Friday on his injured left knee.
It should come as no surprise. The sensational rookie suffered a high grade strain of his lateral collateral ligament and a hyperextension of his left knee on Monday night when he tried to block the plate from a hard-charging Ryan Kalish. Santana, 24, will spend the next four-to-six months in recovery mode with an eye on returning to full health by the start of spring training 2011. He registered an .868 OPS and six homers in 150 at-bats this year. Aug. 5 - 6:31 pm et
